Join SMSAR

Joining SMSAR is easy!  All that is required is the following:

  • Complete a SMSAR Trainee Application
  • Fill out a Department of Emergency Management Worker Card
A background check is done on all DEM Worker Cards because we are affiliated with the Spokane County Sheriff's Department.
  • You must also be a member of the Spokane Mountaineers (application)
  • Since we are an adult SAR team, you must be at least 18 years of age

Costs

All "field-qualified" personnel are on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  It's a fact that everyone will not be able to make it to every search.  We all have families, careers, school, vacations, etc.  This is a volunteer organization, you decide if you want to go on the search.

The SMSAR Team has taken this into consideration and have come up with the following requirements to be in good standing with the team.

  • Spokane Mountaineers Yearly Dues are $30.00 with a one-time initiation fee for new members of $5.00
(military and college student discounts available)
  • SMSAR has a one-time initiation fee of $30.00 and you will receive the following items:
    • 1 - Blue Reflective Vest (after becoming certified)
    • 1 - Round Mountaineers Club Patch
    • 1 - SAR Rocker (after becoming certified)
  • Complete 20 additional hours annually (these hours are not hard to get, a usual Saturday training is 6-8 hours)
