- WORKING TOGETHER SAVING LIVES
November 11th at 8:00 a.m.
Spokane County Search and Rescue teams will be
training together doing what they love, saving lives. The Spokane Mountaineers Search
and Rescue team will be training with other search and rescue teams in a live, full
day mock search and rescue.
Working together will be mountain rescue personnel,
field personnel, search dogs and searchers on horseback. The search and rescue exercise
will take place in Riverside State Park near the Deep Creek climbing area.
Once
the lost subject is located, a full rescue operation will begin. This may involve
a 200 foot lower of the litter and patient by experienced mountain rescue personnel.
Or it may involve an evacuation of the litter and patient by horseback. Whatever
happens, it will be exciting to watch these professional volunteers do what they
love to do.
“Searching can be so rewarding. When someone out there is having the
worst day of their lives, we have the opportunity to help them,” said Jackie Bell,
Chair of the Spokane Mountaineers Search and Rescue. She explained, “many people
do not realize that if your child becomes lost or your elderly parent with Alzheimer’s
wanders away from home, that there is not a paid search and rescue team to respond.
Who responds are the highly trained, professional volunteers who give their time
and resources toward helping others.”
The mission of the Spokane Mountaineers Search
and Rescue is “To serve, so that others may live.”
